Naturally I have included more detail on the part of Australia I know best, the Central Outback.

The Australian Outback can be roughly defined as anywhere over 300km from the coast except in the northern and western part of the country where the outback generally meets the sea.

Australia is over 4500 km from east to west and more than 3000 km north to south. It covers 7.5 million square kilometres.

It takes a long time and a lot of travelling even to see the places I have marked.

Because it is such a big country it is difficult to put a comprehensive map on a website. However there are good Australia maps on CD or in print available from Westprint maps.

You really need to study the part of the country you are interested in, to plan your Aussie trip. Many overseas visitors try to see too much of the country in one trip and wear themselves out just travelling from one place to another.
